Bonnie Jean Behrendsen, 70, of Omaha, NE, passed away on Friday, Feb. 8, at CHI Health - Creighton University Medical Center - Bergan Mercy in Omaha, NE.

Bonnie Jean Behrendsen, the daughter of Charles and Esther (Klaus) Behrendsen, was born on April 3, 1948, in Charter Oak, IA. She grew up in the Smithland and Mapleton, IA area and graduated from Maple Valley High School.

After high school, Bonnie went to work in a bank in Omaha, NE. After working at the bank, Bonnie worked in a local medical office before starting as a Clerk of District Court for Douglas County. After 17 years with Douglas County, she retired.

Bonnie will be remembered for her quick wit and sense of humor. She loved to laugh and spend time with her family. Bonnie enjoyed cooking, gardening, puzzles and treasured her time with her son Chad.

Left to cherish her memory are her son Chad Behrendsen of Omaha, NE; siblings Joyce Spracklin of Council Bluffs, IA, Patricia Evers of Pocahontas, IA, Ronald (Janet) Behrendsen of Council Bluffs, IA, Sheryl Howard of Omaha, NE, Kenneth “Gus” Behrendsen of Ida Grove, IA, David Behrendsen of Phoenix, AZ, Myron Behrendsen of Phoenix, AZ, and Tom (Gary Nixon) Behrendsen of Omaha, NE; numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

Bonnie was preceded in death by her parents Charles and Esther Behrendsen; brother Steve Behrendsen; and best friend Angie Moreno.

A Memorial Service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, Feb. 14, at the Armstrong – Van Houten Funeral Home in Mapleton with Rev. Jena Finch-Manchester officiating.

Committal will follow in the St. Clair Township Cemetery near Ute.

Visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 13, at the Armstrong-Van Houten Funeral Home in Mapleton. The Armstrong - Van Houten Funeral Home of Mapleton is in charge of the funeral arrangements.
