Former resident remembered May 24

William “Bill” Botsford, age 81 of Manning, Iowa, died Friday, May 21, 2004 at a hospital in Carroll, Iowa.

Services were held 11: 00 a. m. Monday, May 24 at Ohde Funeral Home in Manning with Rev Marshall Brown officiating. Burial was in Mount Hope Cemetery, Mapleton. Helen Ohde was the vocalist for the service and Connie Siepker was the organist. Music included "How Great Thou Art", "Amazing Grace" and "In The Garden."

William John, son of Lynn E and Catherine (Byrnes) Botsford, was born November 6, 1922, in Des Moines, Iowa. He attended Holy Trinity Parochial School and Urbandale High School. Bill then worked on a farm as a farm hand. In 1944, Bill was united in marriage with Betty Clark. A daughter Connie was born to this union.

Bill then worked at Swift & Company and a dry-cleaning company, before he started driving truck for Bruce Motor Freight in Des Moines.

On September 1, 1962, Bill was united in marriage with Pauline Hahn in Des Moines. Bill and Pauline made their home in Des Moines. In 1971 they moved to Missouri where Bill worked for Stoker Propane and Sun Oil. He retired in 1977 at which time they moved to Manning.

During his retirement. Bill owned and operated Bill's Bicycle Shop and was known by many as "Bicycle Bill." He enjoyed having coffee at the round table and traveling and blowing glass in his early days.

Besides his parents, Bill was preceded in death by two brothers, Francis Botsford and John Botsford and brother-in-law, Fred Bursiek.

Bill is survived by his wife, Pauline Botsford of Manning, a daughter, Connie and husband Pete Calvert of Naples, Florida, two grandchildren, Scot Vail and Tracy and husband Jason Gunkle, two great-grandsons, Brent and Karson Gunkle, two sisters, Patricia Bursiek of Urbandale and Kathryn and husband Richard Adams of Des Moines, nieces, nephews other relatives and friends.

Casket-bearers were Ernie Reinke, Leo Willenborg, Don Zubrod, Mel Jackson, Dennis Ramsey and Richard Meyer.

Ohde Funeral Home of Manning was in charge of arrangements.
