UTE, Iowa -- Freda M. Burroughs, 79, of Ute died Saturday, Feb. 10, 2007, at her home in Ute.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at United Methodist Church in Charter Oak, Iowa, with Pastor Ken Baughman officiating. Burial will be in St. Clair Cemetery at Ute. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. today, with a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Armstrong Funeral Home in Ute.

Freda Mae (Griffin) Burroughs was born Oct. 29, 1927, to Maynard J. and Mary E. (Taylor) Griffin at Nebraska City, Neb. She had a very happy childhood. In 1946, she graduated from Nebraska City High School and in 1947, graduated from Nebraska Beauty School in Omaha.

She was united in marriage to Francis Burroughs at United Methodist Church in Nebraska City on March 14, 1948. The couple lived in the Shenandoah, Iowa area, moving to Ute in 1957. Francis passed away July 5, 1997.

She was a member of United Methodist Church in Ute and the U.M.W., serving as vice president and president. Freda loved her Lord, her husband and family. She enjoyed sending cards, cooking and flowers.

Those left to cherish her memory include her nine children, Tim and his wife, Barb of Chillicothe, Ill., Joe and his wife, Helen of Corona, N.M., Dan and his wife, Jane of Ute, Ruth Aken of Omaha, Neb., Richard of Marion, Iowa, Raymond of Ute, Tony of Sioux Falls, S.D., David and his wife, Clarissa of Sioux City and Bob and his wife, Kathy of Corona, N.M.; 25 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; a sister, Marjorie Schuett of Fremont, Neb.; along with other relatives, good friends and neighbors.

Along with her husband, Freda was preceded in death by her parents, Maynard and Mary Griffin; an infant daughter, Elizabeth; a son-in-law, Tim Aken; an aunt, Georgia Powell; a brother-in-law, Norris Schuett; and three grandchildren, Pam Bitters, Leslie Rude and Travis Aken.

Pallbearers will be Freda's eight sons.
