MAPLETON, Iowa -- Lorene A. Gust, 74, of Mapleton died unexpectedly Sunday, Oct. 6, 2002, at Burgess Health Center in Onawa, Iowa.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Ute, Iowa, with the Rev. Ed Brandt officiating. Burial will be in St. Clair Cemetery in Ute. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. today, with a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Armstrong Funeral Home in Mapleton.

Lorene Ann Gust was born Jan. 19, 1928, on a farm northwest of Ute, the daughter of Herman William and Ruth (Waack) Gust. She was baptized March 18, 1928, and confirmed March 29, 1942, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Ute. She attended school in Mapleton while staying with her grandparents. She graduated from Mapleton High School with the class of 1946. She then started working for O.P. Bennett in Mapleton as a secretary. In 1968, Lorene moved to the farm she was living on at the time of her death.

She was a lifelong member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Ute.

Those survivors left to cherish Lorene's memory include a sister-in-law, Dorothy Gust of Mapleton; a niece, Audrey Gust of Mapleton; three nephews, Thomas Gust of Ames, Iowa, Anthony Gust and his wife, Shirley of Council Bluffs, Iowa, and Steven Gust of Mapleton; a great-niece, Dawn Letcher of Council Bluffs; two great-nephews, Daniel Letcher of Council Bluffs, and David Letcher, who is stationed with the military in Germany; two aunts, Hilda Gust of Mapleton, and Emma Waack of Winter, S.D.; along with several cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Lawrence Gust.
