TURIN, Iowa -- Ellen Chapin, 95, of Whiting, Iowa, formerly of Turin, died Thursday, Oct. 24, 2002, at Pleasant View Care Center in Whiting.

Services will be 2:30 p.m. Monday at Rush Family Care Service in Onawa, Iowa, with the Rev. John Noer officiating. Burial will be in Onawa Cemetery. Visitation will be 1 p.m. until service time Monday at the funeral home.

Ellen was born Jan. 4, 1907, in Republic, Kan., the daughter of Fletcher and Effie (Byrum) Trimmer. She attended school in Silver City, Iowa.

She married Walter Chapin on Feb. 3, 1925, at the Dodge House in Council Bluffs, Iowa. The couple made their home in Glenwood and Hastings, Iowa. They moved to their farm in Turin in 1942. Walter passed away Dec. 11, 1978, in Onawa.

She was devoted to her family and enjoyed her farm in the hills, tending to her flowers and watching the cardinals.

Survivors include a daughter and her husband, Lila and John Ankerstjerne of Onawa; eight grandchildren, Brian and Cheri Cox, Bruce Cox, Karen and Sam Mele, JoAnn and Larry Duimstra, Sandy and Dave Beechy, Vernice Ankerstjerne, Sherri and Doug Johnston and Scott and Julie Ankerstjerne; 16 great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Hazel Stiles and Fern Malm, both of Council Bluffs; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter and her husband, Inez Elaine and Paul Cox; a grandson, Steve Ankerstjerne; 10 brothers, Sylvester, Charlie, Bill, Jim, Ed, Jack, Earl, George, Glen and Joe Trimmer; and a sister, Cora Gemmell.
