Helen I (Funkhouser) Bard passed away Easter Sunday, March 27, 2005 at Woodlands Rehabilitation in Council Bluffs.

Helen was born on June 5, 1926 at Whiting, Iowa. She was the only daughter of Ruby and Melvin Funkhouser. While attending Wayne State College in Wayne, Nebraska, she met and then married Dale Bard on May 26, 1948. From this union, three daughters were born: Janelle (Jan), Julee and Ken.

Survivors include her husband Dale, Jan and Jim Westermann reside in Bellingham, Washington. Julee Harter and Doug Lloyd reside in Crescent, Iowa and Keri and Kent Noel reside in Rowlett, Texas.

Other survivors include her grandchildren: Jaimi, Jani and Joy Westermann, Brian and Anne Harter and Cassie Noel. Greatgrandchildren: James and Sarah Westermann, and Payton Julian Harter. Several nieces and nephews.

Helen was preceded in death by her parents, and brother Jimmie and Sister in law, Wilma Jean.

Helen graduated from Whiting High School and went on to attend Wayne State College. While her husband taught school in various locations in Iowa and Nebraska during the 1950's and 1960's, Helen continued to pursue her career as an accountant. The family transferred to Dallas, Texas in 1970 where they lived for 22 years. Helen retired from her position of General Office Manager in Pediatric Associates in 1991.

Helen showed an exceptional talent in interior decorating. Hospitality and entertaining brought her great joy. She also enjoyed needlework and ceramics, was an avid bridge player, an active Kiwanian and a member of St. Mark's Methodist Church. Helen touched the live of all who knew her. We love you mom.

A memorial celebration of her life will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, April 2, 2005 at St. Mark's Methodist Church at 15 Bennett Avenue, Council Bluffs, Iowa. Luncheon will be served in the Fellowship Hall immediately following the service. Inurnment will be at the Lincoln Cemetery in Whiting, Iowa

Arrangements were by the Korisko Larkin Staskiewicz Funeral Home, Omaha NE.
