MAPLETON, Iowa -- Catherine Bernice Barry, 96, of Mapleton died Saturday, Jan. 1, 2005, in Scottsdale, Ariz.

Services will be 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 15, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Mapleton. Burial will be in St. Patrick's Cemetery, Danbury, Iowa.

Catherine Bernice Barry, the daughter of Michael Raymond Hurley and Elizabeth Gertrude (McNeil) Hurley, was born Jan. 28, 1908, in Elkader, Iowa. She graduated from Clarke College in Dubuque, Iowa. She taught at St. Mary's High School in Elkton, S.D. from 1930 to 1931 and at St. Patrick's High School in Danbury, Iowa from 1931 to 1932.

She married Bartholomew Earl Barry on Aug. 8, 1932, in Elkader. They had four children. She had been a resident of Mapleton since 1936.

She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church. She was the chairman of the fund drive for the American Heart Association and the Cancer Foundation. She was a volunteer at St. Mary's School in Mapleton and a member of Clarke College Alumni fund drive.

She is survived by a daughter, Rose Marie Wolden of Scottsdale, Ariz., and Mapleton; three sons, Patrick F. Barry of Woodridge, Ill., R. Michael Barry of Red Bluff, Calif., and G. Bernard Barry of Paradise Valley, Ariz.; two sisters, Frances Cervera O'Brien of Whittmore, Iowa, and Angela Ann Hurley of Weston, Fla.; a brother, Bernard Daniel Hurley of Milwaukee, Wis.; 12 grandchildren, Roxanne, David, Brian, Jean Marie, Mary, Katie, Mark, Lisa Marie, Elizabeth, Kelly, Ray and Patrice; and 13 great-grandchildren, Kyle, Nicole, Rebecca, Ryan, Brittney, Breagan, Brennan, Breilan, Grayson, Sarah, Maeve, Merrill and Jack.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Earl in 1958; and three sisters, Colette Hurley, Gertrude White and Agnes Schott.

After completing all her tasks on earth, she was carried by angels to where she was welcomed to her eternal home by her Lord and Savior. Although she no longer casts a shadow, she still walks with us.
