ONAWA, Iowa -- Virginia Johnson, 90, of Onawa died Monday, July 3, 2006, at a Sioux City hospital.

Memorial services will be 10 a.m. Thursday at First Christian Church in Onawa, with the Rev. Dennis Olsen officiating. Burial will be in Harrison Cemetery, Whiting, Iowa. Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. today at Rush Family Care Service in Onawa.

Virginia was born Jan. 6, 1916, in Summit View, Wash., the oldest child of the Rev. Arthur F. and Lilly (Johnson) Steams. At the age of 10, after her mother's death, the family moved to Omaha, where she helped to raise her eight siblings. Two years later, her father married Sylvia Johnson. The family remained in Omaha, where she graduated from school.

On Jan. 5, 1934, she and Orville W. Johnson were joined in marriage at a ceremony conducted by her father at her parent's home in Omaha. Orville died in September 1985 in Onawa.

She was a member of First Christian Church and had been active in the Christian Women's Club. She enjoyed cards and volunteered her help with activities at the Senior Center.

Survivors include four daughters, Deanna and her husband, Glenn Littles of Onawa, Bonnie Gaskill and her significant other, Austin Kotz of Dakota City, Kathy and her husband, Cecil Flammang of Rogers, Ark., and Susan and her husband, Mick Conway of Rosalie, Neb.; 18 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Diana Palmer Lykke of Omaha; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, she was also preceded in death by her five brothers, Art, Bill, Donald, Vernon and Lyle; and two sisters, Lillian "Ginger" Foti and Lois Bayles
