Mapleton, Iowa – Mable E. Blackman, 79, of Mapleton died Saturday, April 26, 1997, at a Sioux City hospital following a lengthy illness.

Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Faith Bible Church in Mapleton, with the Rev. James L. McIntosh officiating. There will be no burial or visitation. Christy Smith and Hockenberry Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Mrs. Blackman was born April 28, 1917 in Moorhead, Iowa, the daughter of Henry and Tina (Dougard) Misfeldt. She was raised in Moorhead and lived in Castana, Iowa for a few years.

She married Oral C. Blackman on September 25, 1935 in Ute, Iowa. The couple moved to Mapleton in the early 1950’s. She was employed as a cook at a nursing home for several years.

She was a member of Faith Bible Church.

Survivors include her husband, a son, Jim of Denver, Colorado, a daughter and her husband, Mary and Dwight Koster of Currie, Minnesota, a daughter-in-law, Alta Blackman of Denver, 11 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren and two sisters, Doris Hubbard of Austin, Texas and Meral Potts of Sioux City.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a son, Robert, a brother and a sister.
