FORMER RESIDENT BURIED FRIDAY

Funeral Services Held in Byers Funeral Home for Alfred C. Ehlers

Funeral services were held here Friday afternoon in the Byers Funeral home for Alfred Carl Ehlers, 56-year old resident of Boulder, Colo., formerly of Mapleton, who died Monday of last week in Boulder following a stroke.

Interment was in Mt. Hope cemetery near Mapleton with the American Legion in charge of military rites at the grave.

Rev. Daryl M. Schmidt, pastor of St. Matthew's Lutheran church, was in charge of the services.

Pall bearers were Gust Marten of Ute, Albert Marten, Herman Marten and Henry Knief of Mapleton, Louie Marten of Denison and Carl Marten of Pomeroy, Ia., all brothersinlaw of Mr. Ehlers.

Son of Rev. Anton and Marie Ehlers he was born November 18, 1888, at Grey, Ia. He served in the Army World War I. He was married to Miss Caroline Marten in 1922 in Mapleton. With Mrs. Ehlers and son he left here 17 years ago.

He was a member of the Grace Lutheran church in Boulder and was employed in Bergheim's Clothing store there.

Surviving are his widow and son, James Ehlers, a student of Theology in St. Louis, Mo., 2 brothers, Theo. Ehlers of Denver, Colo, and Oscar Ehlers of Charter Oak, 4 sisters, Mrs. Claudia Mueller of Akron, Ohio, Mrs. Emma Schart and Mrs. Lydia Scharf of Fort Dodge, Ia., and Mrs. Eleanor Bentrup of Chattanooga, Tenn. An older brother preceded him in death.
