OBITUARY

ALVENA LOUISE KNIEF

Alvena Louise Knief, daughter of Albert and Caroline Marten, was born January 31, 1889 at Charter Oak, Iowa and died Monday, Feb. 25, 1963 at a Sioux City hospital following a long illness. She was 74 years and 24 days old.

Mrs. Knief was the fourth children in a family of 10 children. She moved to a farm near Mapleton with her parents as a small child. She had made her home in the Mapleton community her entire life. Since November she and her husband resided in Mapleton, and for 44 years previous they had lived on a farm five miles south of Mapleton.

She was baptized on March 10, 1889 at Charter Oak by the Rev. Amstein and was confirmed into the Lutheran faith on March 27, 1904 at Soldier township by Rev. Wehking. She had been a member of St. Matthew's Lutheran church here since 1909.

She was married to Henry Knief on Dec. 16, 1909 at Mapleton.

Survivors include the widower, Henry; two sisters, Mrs. Caroline Ehlers of Mapleton and Mrs. Eliza Vesey of Tucson, Ariz.; two brothers, John of Mapleton and Carl of Pomeroy. She was preceded in death by her parents and five brothers.

Services were held Thursday, Feb. 28, 1963 at 11 a.m. at St. Matthew's Lutheran church with Rev. E. E. Greene officiating.

Pallbearers were Vern Marten, Ralph Marten, Raymond Marten, Harold Marten, Clifford Marten and Edgar Rossow. Burial was in Mt. Hope cemetery under the direction of the Walter funeral home.
