OBITUARY

HENRY WILLIAM KNIEF

Henry William Knief, the son of Herman and Dora Knief, was born April 28, 1883, at Traener, Iowa, and died December 28, 1967, at a Sioux City hospital at the age of 84 years and 8 months.

As a young boy in about 1904 he came with his parents to the Mapleton community. It was here he farmed and resided for the remainder of his life. He and his wife farmed for 44 years on a farm 5 miles south of Mapleton. In 1962 they retired from farming and moved into the town of Mapleton where he had lived at the present time.

He was baptized on June 17, 1883 at Traener and was confirmed into the Christian Faith on April 27, 1896, also at Traener, Iowa. he had been a long time member of the St. Matthews Lutheran Church here at Mapleton.

Mr. Knief was married to Alvena Marten on December 16, 1909 at Mapleton. She preceded him in death on February 23, 1963.

Survivors include 3 brothers: Adolph and Herman both of Kiron, Iowa; and Otto of Rock Falls, Illinois, 3 sisters: Mrs. Matilda Schmidt and Mrs. Mary Fahrenkrug of Traener, Iowa, and Mrs. John Rodenberg of McClellan, Iowa.

He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, a brother and a sister.

Services were Bruce Bergren, Gene Bergaman, Cyrenus Knief, Clifford Marten, Ralph Marten and Edgar Rossow.

Burial was in Mt. Hope Cemetery at Mapleton, Iowa.
