LOUIE MARTEN

Louie Emil Carl Marten, son of Albert Marten and Caroline nee Mundt, was born Feb. 18, 1897 near Charter Oak.

In early infancy he was baptized in the Lutheran church at Charter Oak and later confirmed in this faith in St. Paul's Lutheran church of Ute. He grew to manhood near Mapleton and in 1917 joined the Armed Forces.

Mr. Marten was married to Matilda Suhr Feb. 23, 1919. They farmed for five years near Mapleton, then near Charter Oak, until coming to Denison 16 years ago where Mr. Marten went into business. He died Sunday when his summer home near Bena, Minn., was burned.

He is survived by his widow; four sons, Willis, Ralph and Marvin of Denison and Louis with the U. S. Navy in Hawaii; one daughter, Mrs. Marjorie Petersen of Denison; nine grandchildren, five brothers, Gus of Jefferson, Albert, John and Herman of Mapleton and Carl of Pomeroy; three sisters, Mrs. Alvina Knief and Mrs. Caroline Ehlers of Mapleton and Mrs. Eliza Vesey of Tucson, Ariz. His parents and one brother preceded him in death.

Mr. Marten was a member of the Zion Lutheran church for years and funeral services were held there Wednesday afternoon with the Rev. Carl W. Schmidt in charge. Burial was made in the Lutheran cemetery.

Pallbearers were James Ehlers, Gerald Eyer, Laverne Eyer, Clifford Marten, Raymond Marten and Laverne Strait.
