CLAUS ROHDE IS BURIED TUESDAY

Funeral Services Held in St. Matthew's Church for Pioneer Resident

Funeral services for Claus Rohde, 79-year-old pioneer Mapleton resident and retired farmed who died here Sunday in his home on North 5th street after an illness of 2 years, were held at 2 o'clock Tuesday afternoon in St. Matthew's Lutheran church.

Rev. Daryl M. Schmidt, pastor of the church, conducted the services.

Pallbearers were Clem Babbe, Herman Marten, Henry Rohde, Adolph Rohde, Henry Noethlich and Leonard Noethlich.

Burial was in the Soldier Township cemetery near Ricketts under direction of the Byers Funeral home of Mapleton.

Mr. Rohde was born September 3, 1868, in Hamburg, Germany (actual birth was in Elmshorn, 35 miles from Hamburg), the son of Claus and Anna Rohde. He came to the United States with his parents when he was 3 years old and spent the rest of his life in the Ricketts and Mapleton communities.

On February 25, 1892, he was married to Miss Maggie Ragis. To this union 7 children were born.

After farming near here for many years, Mr. and Mrs. Rohde retired and moved to Mapleton in 1920.

They have been active workers in St. Matthew's church. He served as church treasurer for many years.

Surviving are his widow, 2 sons, Walter (Bud) Rohde of Mapleton and Emil Rohde of Battle Creek; 2 daughters, Mrs. Anna Clausen of Ricketts and Mrs. Alvina Reitz of Battle Creek; and 12 grandchildren.

Three children preceded their father in death.
