Mrs. Flora A. Smith of Ute, aged 79 years, 11 months and 2 days, passed away at noon Wednesday, May 19, 1937, following a stroke.

Rev. R.A. Cowling of St. Paul Episcopal church of Sioux City conducted services at the home Friday afternoon, May 21. Mrs. Chris Gregerson sang and was accompanied by Mrs. Zoe Kieffer. Interment was in St. Clair Cemetery at Ute, under the direction of the Bartcher. Funeral Home of Denison.

Flora A. Smith, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jewett Boardman Brigham, was born in Bakersfield, Vermont, June 17, 1857. She lived in Boston, Massachusetts, until thirteen years of age, moving from there to New York. She came west with her father in August 1880, settling on a farm west of Ute.

In January 1884 she was married to Dr. Cyrus M. Smith and became a resident of the town of Ute and has maintained her home here ever since, being away from town only at short intervals. He family built the first house in the town.

Mr. Smith died in 1889 and one daughter, Daisy, died in 1887, at the age of 7 months.

Mrs. Smith became a member of the Presbyterian Church while in New York but was active in Methodist Church work while in Ute. She was a member of the O.E.S. Lodge and the D.A.R.

Mrs. Smith is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Mabel Bird and granddaughter, Miss Flora Bird, of Ute. Her sister, Mrs. W.G. Wright of Denison, passed away in 1916 and her brother, Frank Brigham, died in 1918.

Out of town relatives and friends attending the funeral services were Mrs. George Josemovich of Chicago, Mrs. Joy Kelly of Marengo, Illinois, Mrs. Alfred Wright of Denison, Mrs. E.B. Gooch and Mrs. Raymond Wilson of Sac City and Mr. and Mrs. O.P. Bennett of Mapleton.
