“Bert” Ullrich Dies Suddenly

Funeral services for E.B. “Bert” Ullrich, 75-year-old prominent Mapleton resident, who passed away at his home in Mapleton early Thursday morning following a heart attack, will be held Saturday morning at 9 o’clock in St. Mary’s Church.

Rev. A.H. Ocken, pastor of the church, will officiate.

Interment will be in St. Mary’s cemetery under the direction of the Olerich Funeral Home.

John Stodden, Leo B. Streck, Mike Thomas, J.S. Reinbold and John Richtermier of Mapleton and Joe Reister of Ute will serve as pallbearers.

Mr. Ullrich, son of John and Gertrude Ullrich, was born March 5, 1864, in Clinton County, Iowa. He moved to Charter Oak when 12 years of age. He was married to Miss Estella Wood in 1894 and they established their home at Charter Oak. She preceded him in death in 1898. Two children were born to this union, Mrs. Sophia Smith and Miss Mary Ullrich.

On May 29, 1900, Mr. Ullrich was married to Miss Julia Schafer of Lansing, Michigan at Charter Oak. They made their home on a farm near Ute 10 years and in 1911 moved to a farm south of Mapleton which is now occupied by Mr. and Mrs. Leo Ullrich and family. They resided there until 1931 when they retired and moved to Mapleton. Mrs. Ullrich preceded him in death in November 1936.

Mr. Ullrich was a friend of all who knew him and a fine citizen. He was down town Wednesday evening visiting with his many friends. Death came in the early hours Thursday morning, following a heart attack. Last Sunday the entire family enjoyed a family reunion and picnic at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Leo Ullrich.

He is survived by eight children, Miss Ullrich of Mapleton, Mrs. Smith and Mrs. Ray Bresnahan of Ida Grove, Mrs. Leo Streck, Jr. of Ute, Bert Ullrich of Oto, Leo Ullrich of Mapleton, Ray Ullrich of Hornick and Walt Ullrich of Sioux City.

He also is survived by one brother, Nick Ullrich of Mapleton, one sister, Mrs. Ernst Topf of LeMars and 14 grandchildren. —Mapleton Press.
