Joe Marshall Carritt, 93, of Onawa, Iowa, passed away on Friday, July 6, 2018, at Pleasant View Care Center in Whiting, Iowa.

Funeral services will be held 10:30 A.M. Wednesday, July 11, 2018, at the Rush Family Chapel in Onawa, with Pastor Mary Hamer officiating. Burial will follow in Kennebec Cemetery near Castana, Iowa. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the funeral service on Wednesday, July 11, 2018, at the Chapel. Arrangements are under the direction of Rush Family Care Service in Onawa.

Joe Marshall Carritt was born on August 27, 1924, in rural Soldier, Iowa, to Louis Marshall “Dooley” and Blanche Mary (Allen) Carritt. He graduated from the Iowa School for the Deaf in Council Bluffs, Iowa, in 1944. He married Delores Nichols.

He made his career as a printer, first for a newspaper in Duluth, Minnesota, and then for the Chicago Sun Times newspaper in Chicago, Illinois. Later on, he printed law books. He retired from the Printers Union in Chicago.

Joe enjoyed traveling. He was an avid bowler, poker player, and chess player, and he was excellent at all of them.

Survivors include one sister, Barbara Lambert, and one brother and his wife, Jerry and Mary Lou Carritt, all of Onawa, IA; his children, April Rodgers and Sean Carritt, both of California; several grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Louis and Blanche Carritt; one brother and his wife, Donald and Nancy Carritt; one sister and her husband, Judith and Harlan Schopke; and one brother-in-law, Lyle Lambert.
