Obituary of William Aitken, Passes Away at Sioux City June 29

William Aitken, son of John and Jane Aitken, was born November 22, 1883 at Ellen, Aberdeenshire, Scotland. When only a child of 19 he came to the United States seeking opportunities offered here.

He began his career here at the knitting Mills of Buffalo, New York and later the railroad yards of Canton, Ohio, working there for a short time.

Seeking opportunities on to the west he worked as a farm hand in Iowa and Nebraska.

In 1910 he began farming for himself in Monona County and remained so till health overtook him. On June 28, 1914 he was baptized in the Reorganized Church of Latter Day Saints of Moorhead, Iowa continuing his membership through the years.

On February 15, 1915 he was united in marriage to Blanche Struble of Castana, Iowa. He took his bride to a home in readiness at Turin, Iowa. To this union 6 children were born.

In 1917 he purchased a small tract of land near Arcola and began to build a home of his choice.

Planning more for his family in 1927 he rented the Copeland farm of Castana, where he resided for 12 years.

In 1941 he returned to his own farm at Arcola where he has had many happy and pleasant days.

Due to lingering heart ailment of the last 5 years he succumbed at a Sioux City hospital at the age of 65 years, 7 months and 7 days.

He leaves to mourn his passing his widow, Blanche, 6 daughters, Junita Reckoff of Storm Lake, Iowa; Kinena Olson and Wyma Knoff of Turin, Iowa, Wanda Olson and Wilda Erickson of Castana, Iowa; Letty Jane Hammer of Holstein, Iowa; 7 grandchildren. He leaves also his sister and brothers, Lizzie Henderson of Calgary Canada, Maggie York, Mary Reld and Flora Aitken of Scotland; John Aitken of Medicine Hat, Canada, Arthur Aitken of Scotland, besides a host of other relatives and friends.
