HELEN E CARLSON

Helen E Carlson, 75, Soldier, Iowa, passed away November 15, 1984. at Schoitz Hospital, Waterloo, Iowa, after suffering a stroke.

Helen Elizabeth was born March 3,1909. on a farm near Delhi, Iowa, to Harry and Theodosia Britt Pulver. On July 17, 1933, she was united in marriage to Page W. Carlson at Monticello, Iowa. To this union were born a daughter and a son.

She was baptized at home by the Pastor of the Delhi Methodist Church and at the age of ten joined St. Luke's Methodist Church in Monticello. She joined Soldier Lutheran Church upon her marriage and remained a faithful and active member until her death. Of particular interest to her were the building of the new church, the Bible Studies offered by the pastors and the women's groups. She held several offices at the circuit level and in the Soldier Lutheran Church Women.

She graduated from Cornell College, Mt. Vernon, Iowa, and taught English in Soldier for two years prior to her marriage. For several years before her retirement in 1974, she served the East Monona School as a Librarian. She maintained an interest in the activities of the English Department, attending many of the plays and presentations. She was a 50 year member of the P.E.O. Sisterhood and supported its scholarships and educational efforts for women.

Survivors include her mother, Mrs. Theodosia Pulver of Monticello, la.; a daughter and son-in-law, Dr. and Mrs. H. Oliver (Jane) Stoutland of Ackley, la., a son and daughter-in-law, The Reverend P. Michael and Marilyn Carlson of Eau Claire, Wisconsin; a sister and brother-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Howard (Mildred) Azer of West Chicago, Ill.; and seven grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband Page and her father, Harry.

Services were held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, November 19, 1984, at the Soldier Lutheran Church with Rev Larry Sydow officiating. Mrs. Leonard Jensen, the organist, accompanied the congregation in singing "Beautiful Savior", "In Heaven Above" and "Children Of The Heavenly Father."

Honorary Bearers were Betty Gorham, Alvina Evenson, Corrine Hanson, Mary Ordway, Vivian Andersen, Marilla Wingate, Cora Hanson and Emma Graetz.

Active Bearers were Phillip Hanson, Ralph Gorham, Harry Andersen, Omar Nelson, Milfred Hanson and David Gorham. Interment was in the Soldier Lutheran Cemetery at Soldier, Iowa, with arrangements by the Pearson Funeral Home, Soldier, Iowa
