ONAWA, Iowa -- Donald A. York, 79, of Onawa died Thursday, Oct. 28, 2004, at the Iowa Veteran's Home in Marshalltown, Iowa.

Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Armstrong Funeral Home in Mapleton, Iowa, with the Rev. David Montecuollo officiating. Burial will be in Kennebec Cemetery, Castana, Iowa, with military rites conducted by the American Legion Post 365 of Moorhead, Iowa. Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. today, with a Masonic service at 7 p.m., at the funeral home.

Donald A. York was born July 15, 1925, in Castana, Iowa, the son of Albert and Glatha (Shut) York. He served his country in the U.S. Navy in the South Pacific in both World War II and the Korean War.

He was employed in construction, as a farm laborer, a sheet metal worker and with the Union Pacific Railroad for a time.

He was a member of the Onawa Evangelical Free Church, American Legion Post 365 of Moorhead, the Masonic Lodge Hillcrest Lodge 648 of Castana, the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2694 of Onawa and the Disabled American Veterans of Sioux City.

Survivors include cousins and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant sister, Darlene; and an infant brother, John.
