Father’s Gun Kills Boy
Accidental Discharge of Weapon Brings Death

Freddie Brown, the 7-year-old son of Jens E. Brown, living near Sloan, Iowa, was killed almost instantly Friday morning by the accidental discharge of a shotgun in the hands of his father. The funeral services were held yesterday afternoon at the farm residence. Burial was in the Albaton Cemetery.

Mr. Brown, who is a well known farmer, was driving with his son toward Whiting, taking an occasional shot at ducks as they went. At one place they stopped and Mr. Brown leaned the gun against the wagon wheel for a moment. The horse started up and Mr. Brown grasped the gun hurriedly. In some way the trigger was pressed and the contents of one barrel were fired into the right side of the little lad. He died in ten minutes.

The dead boy was taken home. No inquest was held.

The Browns live seven miles southwest of Sloan. Mrs. H.M. Olson, 1121 West Sixteenth Street, is a sister of Mrs. Brown.
