8 November 2017Norma Jeanne Irwin, 86, of Omaha, Nebraska, formerly of Onawa, Iowa, died on October 29, 2017, at Brighton Gardens in Omaha, while under the care of CHI Hospice and the care of the staff of Brighton Gardens.
Funeral services will be 1:00 P.M. Friday, November 3, 2017, at the Rush Family Chapel in Onawa, Iowa with Pastor Robert Mathena, officiating. A private immediate family burial at Spring Valley Cemetery, Moorhead, Iowa will take place following the service. Visitation will be 11:00 AM until service time on Friday, November 3, 2017, at the Rush Family Chapel. Arrangements are under the direction of Rush Family Care Service in Onawa.
Norma Jeanne was born, the oldest child, to parents Donald (Bus) and Opal (Laidler) Hinkel on November 21, 1930. She had two younger sisters. Jeanne attended the Moorhead Public School, graduating in 1948.
Jeanne (as she preferred to be called) and her two daughters, by a previous marriage, moved to Onawa in 1958. She and William Irwin were married in December 1965, when Bill and Jeanne became Papa and Mama Bear to many friends and family members. She was a good mother and very proud of her two daughters' and step-children's accomplishments, and attended many school activities.
Jeanne was a member of the Onawa Christian Church. She was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary for over 50 years. Jeanne retired from the Monona County Treasurer's Office in 1992, after many years of service.
She moved to Omaha in 2003 to stay with her daughter while recuperating from surgery. Vicki and Jeanne continued to live together, until Jeanne entered the nursing home in May 2017. Vicki and Wendy's good friends became Jeanne's good friends.
Survivors include her daughters, Wendy Shol of Peoria, AZ and Vicki Shol of Omaha, NE; step-children, Oliver, Nancy, John, and Sally; sisters, Lois Hoffman and Kathy Holverson, both of Moorhead, IA; and Joel Severson, for whom Vicki supported in her home and has been a member of their family for the past 8 years; nieces and nephews; and step-grandchildren.
Jeanne was preceded in death by her husband, Bill Irwin; her parents; both sets of grandparents; and two brothers-in-law.
