Virginia A. Erlandson, 74, of Onawa, Iowa, died Monday, October 23, 2017, at Burgess Health Center in Onawa.

Funeral services will be 1:00 P.M. Thursday, October 26, 2017, at the Rush Family Chapel in Onawa, with Pastor Michael Lewis officiating. Burial will follow in Kennebec Cemetery near Castana, with military honors provided by the United States Navy and the Grimsley-Thayer American Legion Post #502 of Castana.

Visitation will be 5:00 – 7:00 P.M. Wednesday, October 25, 2017, at the Rush Family Chapel. Arrangements are under the direction of Rush Family Care Service in Onawa.

Virginia Ann was born on January 22, 1943, in Onawa. She attended school in Onawa, and then graduated from Morningside College in Sioux City with a business degree. She enlisted with the United States Navy on May 19, 1961, and worked as a dental assistant during her service. She was honorably discharged on September 27, 1963.

Virginia and Dean Erlandson were united in marriage on September 11, 1965, in Omaha. Two sons were born to this union, John and Jim.
Along with raising her family, Virginia worked various jobs over the years, including at IBP in Sioux City and as the head librarian at the Onawa Public Library.

She enjoyed reading and spending time with her family. Everyone liked and got along well with Virginia. She was a member of the First Christian Church in Onawa, and of the Grimsley-Thayer American Legion Post #502 of Castana.

Survivors include her husband, Dean Erlandson of Onawa, IA; one son, John Erlandson of Onawa, IA; five grandchildren, Taylor and Brandon Erlandson, both of Onawa, IA, Katie Ann (Kyle) VandenHull of Sioux Falls, SD, Cody (Claire) Strong of Colorado Springs, CO; and Asher Biggs of Sturgeon, MO; two great-grandchildren, Wyatt Kemner and Lilyan VandenHull of Sioux Falls, SD; and two brothers, Russell (Barb) Kepner of Onawa, IA and Leroy (Nancy) Kepner of Castana, IA.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Jim Erlandson; and one sister, Marilyn Brewer.
