Irene Dolores Groom, 95, of Holstein, formerly of Sioux City, died Thursday, Nov. 23, 2006, at Holstein Good Samaritan Center.

Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Christy-Smith Morningside Chapel in Sioux City, with the Rev. Jon Gaul officiating Her body was cremated. Burial will be in St. Clair Township Cemetery, Ute, Iowa, at a later date.

Miss Groom was born Jan. 19, 1911, on a farm near Ute. She was a graduate of South Sioux City High School, the University of Iowa, BA and MA and Peabody College, MALS. She began a teaching career in the rural schools of Nebraska in 1928 and concluded at the University of Montana in the summer of 1972.

Survivors include three nieces; and five nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters; and three brothers.
