ONAWA, Iowa -- Sherry M. Thompson, 56, of Onawa died Sunday, Nov. 27, 2006, at Pleasant View Care Center surrounded by her family and friends following a lengthy battle with Scleroderma.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at First Christian Church in Onawa, with the Rev. Don Collison officiating. Burial will be in Onawa Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, with the family present 5 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Rush Family Care Service in Onawa.

Sherry Marie was born May 26, 1950, in West Point, Neb., the daughter of Glen Clerk and Frances M. (Grandgenette) Thompson. She graduated from Onawa High School with the class of 1968. She attended Western Iowa Tech Community College and received degrees in certified nurse's aide and medical aide. She also was a certified emergency medical technician's assist.

She married Randy Thompson on July 26, 1968, in Onawa. The couple made their home and raised their children in Onawa. She was employed for several years at the Onawa Cafe and Elmwood Care Centre in Onawa. Later, she was a nurse's aide at Pleasant View Care Center in Whiting, Iowa, for 14 years. During these years, she developed a true love and great compassion nurturing, caring and loving the elderly until ill health forced her retirement in January 2004.

She was a member of First Christian Church and the American Legion Auxiliary David McNeill post 129. Her granddaughters were the love of her life. She had a great love for children and enjoyed camping, boating, gardening, sewing and collecting angels.

Survivors include her husband, Randy Thompson of Onawa; two sons, Glen Thompson and his wife, Jennifer of Hornick, Iowa, and Frankie Thompson of Onawa; a daughter and her husband, Shannon and Joe Fox of Onawa; two granddaughters, Kayla and Katie Fox of Onawa; three sisters, JoAnn Lintin of Onawa, Virginia and her husband, Chris Mathison of Turin, Iowa, and Marsha Neldeberg of Loveland, Colo.; two brothers and their wives, Terry and Maureen Thompson of Sergeant Bluff and Bill C. and Carol Thompson of Sioux City; two stepsisters, Norma Jean Jump of Kalamazoo, Mich., and Elaine and her husband, Wayne Carlson of Onawa; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and a half sister, Doris Keifer.
