Virginia Christine Heck, 96, of Renville, Minn., formerly of Danube, Minn., died Thursday, Aug. 31, at the RenVilla Nursing Home in Renville.
Funeral services were 11:30 a.m., Saturday, Sept. 2, at Zion United Methodist Church in Danube. The Rev. Arthur Miller officiated.
Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Virginia Christine Heck was born on Jan. 21, 1921, in Dawson, Neb., to Edgar Paul and Bessie (Hales) Lyons. She attended school and later graduated from Dawson Public High School. She then continued her education at Peru State Teachers College.
Virginia was united in marriage to Elmer Castan and to this union was born one child, Marjorie Ann. Virginia later married Roy Melvin Heck and together they had two daughters, Marilyn Sue and Carolyn Kay.
They lived in Grant Center where Virginia had the post office in their home. Later, they moved to Onawa.
They enjoyed 40 years of marriage together before Roy succumbed to cancer in 1985. Virginia was always active in the community in which she resided. She worked in the Onawa hospital and later worked for Fairview Hospital in Minneapolis, Minn. She retired from this position in 1983, and Virginia and Roy then moved to Danube.
Both Virginia and Roy joined the Danube Zion United Methodist Church and the Danube Senior Citizens. Virginia also belonged to many other organizations in Danube.
Survivors include her daughters, Marjorie Ann (and William) Hagerdon of Mapleton, Marilyn Sue (and LeRoy) Hilbert of Danube, Minn., Carolyn Kay (and Mike) Krueger of Danube, Minn.; eight grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother, John Marlin Lyons, and other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Roy; and four brothers and three sisters.
