11 October 2017Eugene E. (Gene) Martindale, 85, of Turin, Iowa passed away peacefully at his home on Friday, September 29, 2017 surrounded by his family.
Funeral services will be 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, October 4, 2017 at the Onawa United Methodist Church in Onawa, Iowa with Pastor Tim Cramer, officiating. Burial will be in the Belvidere Cemetery, Turin, Iowa. Visitation will be 5:00 P.M. – 8:00 P.M. Tuesday, October 3, 2017 with a prayer service at 7:00 P.M. followed by Masonic Service at Rush Family Chapel in Onawa, Iowa. Arrangements are under the direction of Rush Family Care Service in Onawa, Iowa.
Eugene E. (Gene) was born on January 11, 1932 on the family farm at Castana, Iowa, the second child of Glenn Sr. and Ethel (Beeney) Martindale. Gene attended Belvidere country grade school and Castana High School.
Gene married Betty Adams on July 25, 1952 at Onawa, Iowa. To this union, five children were born. They made their home in Turin, IA where he farmed until his death.
Gene attended Reisch Auctioneering School in 1969. Gene & Betty started a successful auction company later joining with real estate, Bestway Auction Co. Gene & Betty have continued the farming and auction business until his passing.
Gene was a member of the Vesper Lodge #223 AF & AM.
Survivors include his wife, of 65 years, Betty Martindale of Turin, IA; his children, Susan (Dick) Bellis of Blencoe, IA, Rick (Carla) Martindale of Springfield, NE, Betty Jean Abrams of Blencoe, IA, and Gary Martindale of Soldier, IA; his grandchildren, Clint (Amy) Walker, Tracey (Trevor) Miller, Neal (Jen) Raymond, Curtis (Stephanie) Martindale, Isaac (Amy) Martindale, Amber (Brent) Griffith, Mindy (Travis) Menish, and Rosie Martindale; 23 great-grandchildren; sister, Marlene Sargent of Omaha, NE; sisters-in-law, Doris Martindale of Fremont, NE, Sharon Burnsides of Omaha, NE, and Linda (Sonny) Thompson of Honey Creek, IA; brother-in-law, Leroy Adams of Colorado; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and great friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Glenn & Ethel Martindale; son, Joe Martindale; great-grandson, Logan Martindale; brothers, Glenn Jr. Martindale and Richard Martindale; and a cousin, Norman Martindale.
