Gladys L. Thompson, age 86, of Ute, Iowa, walked into the arms of her Savior Jesus, Monday, October 2, 2017, in Lincoln, NE.
A Funeral Service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, October 6, 2017, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, of Ute, Iowa. Rev. Marcus Manley will officiate; with committal services following in the St. Clair Township Cemetery of Ute, Iowa. A visitation will be from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., with a prayer service held at 8:00 p.m., Thursday, October 5, 2017, at Armstrong – Van Houten Funeral Home of Ute, Iowa. The Armstrong - Van Houten Funeral Home of Ute, Iowa is in charge of the funeral arrangements.
Gladys L. Thompson, 86, of Ute, IA, walked into the arms of her Savior Jesus, October 2, 2017, in Lincoln, NE. Gladys was born on March 25, 1931, in Vail, IA, to John and Lena (Segebart) Ladehoff. She was a graduate of Denison High School. Gladys married the love of her life Warren Thompson in 1952. She worked many years at Cronk’s Cafe in Denison before devoting her life to her family. In 1955 their daughter Lisa was born, followed by her sister Dixie in 1964 and Mary the youngest, was born in 1967.
Gladys loved her family. She and Warren spent many years square dancing and attending the Iowa State Fair. Gladys enjoyed gardening, cooking, coloring, crafting, quilting and following her favorite baseball team the Kansas City Royals. Her family loved her famous angel food cakes and she loved making quilts and lap robes for her girls, their husbands, her grandchildren, grand dogs and friends. Gladys enjoyed people and was very busy in the coloring club she started, the Bible Studies she attended, and the many crafts that she made and shared with others at her home in the Lexington Assisted Living Facility in Lincoln, NE. While living in Ute, IA, she was involved in work for the Cancer Association, the American Legion Auxiliary, St. Paul’s Ladies Aide and Bible Study, was a member of the Red Hat Society and the Monona County Historical Society. She and Warren were proud to be members of the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Ute and she continued that tradition as a faithful member of the Christ Place Church in Lincoln.
Left to cherish her memory include her daughters Lisa Thompson, Dixie (Rich) Justus and Mary (Patrick) Staley of Lincoln, NE; brother Donald Ladehoff; sisters Donna (Ronnie) Preul and Bernice Eubanks of Denison, IA; grandchildren Hillari (Simon) Dominguez, Zachary (Krista) Davis, Demari (Chris) Monico, Ivy Moore, Teddy Moore, Isabella, Blake, Aubree, Weston and Dylan Elrod, Tabitha (Kevin) Bromagen, Brittany (Jared) Blaser and Tiffany (Aaron) Johnson; great grandchildren Tanner (Rabecca) Rogers, Brian Balak, Paige, Wyatt and Hudson Davis, Taylor Bromagen, Isaiah Eisentrager, Noel, Emma, Daniel and Joshua Johnson, Braxton and Beckett Blaser; great great grandson Layton Rogers; nieces, nephews, many friends and loved ones.
Gladys was preceded in death by her husband Warren Thompson; parents John and Lena Ladehoff; sisters Marcella (Sally) Brewer, Delores Kirby; brothers Albert and Louis Ladehoff.
Memorials can be given to the family for future designation.
