Carolynn “Nikki” Pierce, age 75, of Mapleton, Iowa, passed away on Saturday, September 23, 2017, at her residence of Mapleton, Iowa.
A Memorial Service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, September 28, 2017 at the St. John’s United Methodist Church of Mapleton, Iowa. Rev. Jena Manchester will officiate; with burial following in the Mt. Hope Cemetery of Mapleton, Iowa. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the Funeral Service from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., on Thursday, September 28, 2017 at St. John’s United Methodist Church of Mapleton, Iowa. The Armstrong - Van Houten Funeral Home of Mapleton, Iowa is in charge of the funeral arrangements.
Carolynn “Nikki” Pierce, the daughter of Edward and Ruby (Rickert) Gosch, was born on June 3, 1942, on a farm near Danbury, IA. She attended country school and graduated from Mapleton High School with the class of 1960.
After graduation Nikki worked in a bank in Omaha, NE, then as a nanny in California where she lived with her sister Ruby. She returned to Omaha where she worked as a bookkeeper and met George “Tom” Pierce. The two were united into marriage in Bennington, NE, on March 29, 1969 and the couple made their home in Omaha. Nikki and Tom were blessed with two sons Jason and Mark.
While living in Omaha, Nikki and Tom took in and helped raise seven additional children in their two-story home. In 1995, the family relocated to Mapleton, IA. Nikki worked in the kitchen of the local school for a year, as a CNA at Maple Heights then at the local In-Home Health, then as a self-employed private caregiver.
Nikki was active in her community helping with the Open Cupboard, and belonged to the local American Legion Auxiliary. She enjoyed Bingo, going out to eat on Friday nights at the Beef-N-Brew, and most of all cherished her moments spent with her family.
Left to cherish her memory are her loving husband of 48 years George “Tom” Pierce of Mapleton, IA; children Jason (Diane) Pierce of McClelland, IA and their children Madeline, Ella and Grace; Mark (Jaclyn) Pierce of Xenia, OH and daughter Loralei; sisters Janyce Lee of Mapleton, IA, Karen Kennedy of Mapleton, IA, Ruby (Larry) Kuczler of Mapleton, IA and Lou Ann (Roger) Gray of Bennington, NE; sisters-in-law Ginger Gosch of Omaha, NE and Lora Gosch of Omaha, NE; brothers-in-law Bryce Lee of Parker, CO and Steve Owens of Goodyear, AZ; many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents Edward and Ruby Gosch; brother Edward Gosch, Jr.; and brother-in-law Noel Kennedy.
