Donna D. Koenig, 93, of Sloan, Iowa, died Friday, August 18, 2017, at Elmwood Care Centre in Onawa.

Funeral services will be 10:30 A.M. Thursday, August 24, 2017, at the Evangelical Covenant Church in Sloan, with Reverend Richard Moore officiating. Burial will follow in the Fairview Township Cemetery in Albaton. Visitation will be 5:00 – 8:00 P.M. Wednesday, August 23, 2017, with a prayer service at 7:00 P.M., at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Rush Family Care Service in Onawa.

Donna Darlene was born on May 7, 1924, in rural Sloan, the daughter of Curtiss West and Maggie Mae (Fletcher) Godsey. She graduated from the Sloan Consolidated High School in 1942. She then attended nurses' training at St. Joseph Hospital in Sioux City, where she graduated as a registered nurse in 1944.

Donna and Winston Koenig were united in marriage on February 10, 1946, at the Christian Church parsonage in Sloan. The couple made their home and farmed near Sloan. Donna worked as a registered nurse at St. Joseph Hospital in Sioux City, at Dr. Fitzgerald's office in Sloan, and at the Sloan Nursing Home.

She was a member of the Evangelical Covenant Church in Sloan. She was a two time Past Worthy Matron of the Athena Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star in Sloan, and a member of the Lossing Corner Homemakers. She enjoyed sewing, reading, traveling, drinking tea, and playing Scrabble. She had unrelenting love for her family, individually and collectively.

Survivors include two sons, Curtiss (Lisa) Koenig of Sloan, IA and Mark Koenig of Colorado; eight grandchildren, Jon Paul (Leslie) Collison, Gabe (Trisha) Beauperthuy, Jennifer Collison, Brian Koenig, Brad (Brandy) Koenig, Beau Koenig, Jessica (Brandon) Meyer, and Eleanor "Ellie" Koenig-Hanafin; nine great-grandchildren; three siblings, Dorothy Redmond of Norman, OK, Richard (Pam) Godsey of Sequim, WA, and Rosemary Hansen of Ute, IA; two sisters-in-law, Bonnie Godsey of Hendersonville, NC and Beverly Godsey of Dubuque, IA; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Curtiss West and Maggie Mae Godsey; her husband, Winston Koenig on December 30, 2005; two daughters and one son-in-law, Christine Beauperthuy and Connie (Paul) Collison; and two brothers, Clifford Godsey and George Godsey.
