Alice Trent-Jacoby was born at Mansfield, Illinois, July 9, 1874 and died at her home near Smithland, February 17, 1927, at the age of 52 years, 7 months and 8 days.

While still a child her parents moved to Bloomington, Illinois and in that city, she grew to womanhood and was married there to John Jacoby, March 15, 1898. In 1909 Mr. and Mrs. Jacoby moved to Iowa and settled near Smithland and they have lived here since with the exception of a few months spent in Colorado. One son, Homer, is the only child, who with her husband grieve the loss of their departed loved one. She also leaves two brothers to survive her, Ellsworth Trent of Bellflower, Illinois and Jess Trent of Clinton, Illinois.

Mrs. Jacoby grew up in a Christian home consequently at an early age, she gave herself to Christ and joined the church, proving a faithful member and she will be greatly missed. She was also a member of the Rebecca Lodge.

Not only her husband and son with other near relatives are sorrowing but a host of friends and neighbors in whose hearts her memory will be long cherished.

Funeral services were held at the home Saturday afternoon with Pastor Hammer officiating and interment was made in the pretty Grant Cemetery situated up in the bosom of the hills overlooking the beautiful valley where she and her companions have lived and labored side by side for so many years.

Sometimes we are prone to look at Death as a cold, merciless enemy whose coming is to be dreaded. But to the Christian whose life has been a witness to a Savior’s love, Death holds no terrors and they who go to sleep a child of His love awake to life immortal in realms of eternal bliss and happiness.
