Martha Ellen Perrin 1892 - 1980

Martha Ellen Perrin, 88, passed away on Sunday, October 19, 1980, at the Burgess Memorial hospital after a long illness.

She was born April 2, 1892 on her parent’s farm south of Moorhead, Iowa. She was the daughter of Robert S. and Mary Lewis Morrow. She lived her whole life in Spring Valley, Township.

She was a member of the Christian Church at Moorhead, the Christian Women’s Fellowship and Sunshine Circle, the American Legion Auxiliary of Peter A. Hansen Post No. 365 and the Order of Eastern Star No. 528 of Moorhead. She attended Moorhead High School. Her father was killed by lightning when she was two years old, leaving five children between three months and ten years of age. Her mother later married Chris A. Christiansen, a young man who had come from Denmark, and had worked for Martha’s father. He was dearly loved by all of the children. They were parents of three sons.

Martha was married to Walter L. Perrin on August 15, 1918. To this union two girls and one boy were- Lorna, Nola and Warren.

Survivors are three children, Mrs. Darrell (Loren Irene) Wessell of Moorhead, Mrs. Darrell (Nola Claire) Sorenson of Los Angeles, California and Warren LeRoy Perrin of Anaheim, California; nine grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; one brother, Walter Christiansen of Woodbine; a sister-in-law, Evelyn Perrin; many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, two sisters and five brothers.

Services were held at 10:30 on Wednesday, October 22, 1980 at the Moorhead Christian Church with Rev. M. Dwight Walker officiating. Mrs. Charles Kratz, the organist, played the selections “The Old Rugged Cross,” “In The Garden,” and “How Great Thou Art.”

Bearers were Juhl Hansen, James Pickle, George Moorhead, John Moorhead, Virgil Johnson and Carroll Johnson.

Interment was in Spring Valley Cemetery at Moorhead with arrangements by the Pearson Funeral Home of Onawa, Iowa.
