Obituary of Louis J. Sherwood

“Lute” as all called him, was the son of John and Drucilla Sherwood. He was born in Ohio, June 28, 18?? and passed away at his home in Moorhead, Iowa, January 22, 1936, having lived in this life for 82 years, 6 months and 24 days.

He was one year of age when his parents came west and located in Iowa, where he has practically spent his whole life.

He was one of a family of four sons. One brother, Winfred, died in the Civil War.

At a tender age Lute was left in the care of relatives, while his parents engaged in hospital work, in the same bloody cause that had taken the life of their son.

On the 7th day of May 1881 he was married to
Miss Nellie Benjamin, at Logan, Iowa. They located on a farm south of Preparation and made farming their occupation until they moved to Moorhead twenty-nine years ago.

Jitney service, while in its height, claimed his attention for some time, after which he engaged in the motion picture work over a period of years. Being a special friend of the children, he gave many complimentary tickets to the movies, thus making many a little heart glad.

His generosity was not limited to the children entirely as many a family enjoyed some show in which he knew they were especially interested.

Mr. Sherwood was not affiliated with any religious nomination, but he was a man among men, strickly adhering to the code of good morals.

He delighted in good neighborly deeds and was always willing to share with others. In fact, he observed the golden rule; “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.”

On December 20, he had a stroke and gradually weakened until the end. He leaves to mourn his departure his faithful wife and other relatives besides many, many friends.

According to Mr. Sherwood’s request made several years ago, Elder Mark Jensen preached the funeral sermon. This was held at the L.D.S. Church of Moorhead at `12:45, January 24. Interment was made in the Magnolia Cemetery where rest the remains of his parents and other relatives.

The dismissal prayer at the cemetery was offered by the M.E. minister, Rev. Clement Rowe, of Magnolia.
