Melvin Knoff, 82, Onawa, Iowa died Sunday, February 20, 2005 at Elmwood Care Centre, Onawa.

A memorial graveside service will be 2:00 PM Wednesday, February 23, 2005 in Ingeman Cemetery in rural Moorhead, Iowa with Rev. Dennis Olson officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Rush Family Care Service, Onawa.

Mel was born October 20, 1922 in Moorhead, Iowa, the son of Ben and Mable C. (Larson) Knoff He was raised in the Moorhead and Onawa areas and attended school in Onawa Public School. He and his father farmed a number of years. He was also a farm laborer and later was employed with Westendorf Manufacturing.

He married Esther (Taylor) Young June 17, 1969 and the couple made their home in Onawa. Esther passed away October 22, 1973.

Mel was of the Lutheran faith. He had a compassion for horses and dogs his entire life and particularly enjoyed being with his grandchildren.

Survivors include his daughter, Judy Wright Heck and her husband Mike of Onawa; two grandchildren, Pete Wright and his wife (Tara), and Jodie Skann, all of Onawa,
his care givers, Carol and Dale Bean and cousins.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by a sonin-law, Pete Wright, and a grandson, Kenney Wright.
