Guyleen Grace Tippery 1930 - 2017

Guyleen Grace Tippery, 86, of Mapleton, Iowa died Tuesday, April 4, 2017 at Maple Heights Nursing Home in Mapleton, Iowa.

Memorial services will be 10:00 A.M. Saturday, April 15, 2017 at St. John's United Methodist Church in Mapleton, Iowa with Reverend Jena Manchester, officiating. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery, Mapleton, Iowa.

Arrangements are under the direction of Rush Family Care Service, Onawa, Iowa.

Guyleen Grace was born October 14, 1930 in Sioux City, Iowa the daughter of Guy Edward and Grace (Guile) Boggs. She was raised in Sioux City, Iowa and for a short time in California from 1944 to 1945 and then back to Sioux City, Iowa where she graduated from East High School in 1949. She attended Wayne State College and received her Teaching Certificate. Guyleen taught in Walthill and Stewart, Nebraska for a short time, and then at Maple Valley Community School in Mapleton, Iowa for several years as a kindergarten teacher and then she worked as the elementary and junior high secretary. She also worked for the government FMHA in Mapleton, Iowa where she retired in 1992.

Guyleen and Cleo M. Tippery were united in marriage on August 16, 1953 in Walthill, NE. Three children were born to this union, Guy Edward, Lynne Patricia, and Teresa Ann. Cleo passed away on November 22, 2004.

Guyleen loved spending time with her family, especially her granddaughters. Guyleen enjoyed bridge card club, sewing, quilting, knitting, crossword puzzles, ceramics, listening to music, and visits from her grand-dogs. Guyleen was a member of St. John's United Methodist Church in Mapleton where she was very active. She was also a member of Loren Hollister American Legion Women's Auxiliary Post #496 of Mapleton and the P.E.O.

Survivors include two daughters, Lynne Patricia (Dr. Patrick) Foy of Wayzata, MN, and Teresa Ann (Paul) Dicks of Mapleton, Iowa; grandchildren, Sarah Foy of Wayzata, MN, Katherine Foy of Wayzata, MN; Paul and Teresa's children, Debbie "Susie" Beaulieu of Sioux City, IA, and Cathy Benjamin of Sioux City, IA; Paul and Teresa's grandchildren, Brooke Beaulieu and Sage Benjamin both of Sioux City, IA; sister, Avon (Stanley) Dawdy of Maceo, KY; nieces and their family, Patricia Griffith and Judy (Gayloin) Taylor; nephews and their family, Larry (Charlene) Dawdy and Gary (Karen) Dawdy; and many other relatives and friends including Paul Dicks parents, Lyle (Gerrie) Moffatt of Sioux City, Iowa.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Guy and Grace Boggs; her husband, Cleo Tippery; son, Guy Edward Tippery in 1957; sister, Lenora Becker; two brothers, Don Brennan and Lyle Brennan; nephew, Eddie Dawdy; great-nephew, Guy Edward Dawdy; and her best friend and forever childhood friend, Doris Rush.

Memorials are preferred "In Memory of Guyleen Grace Tippery" and may be directed to the Alzheimer's Association Big Sioux Chapter, P.O. Box 3716, Sioux City, Iowa 51102-3716 or St. John's United Methodist Church (Directed to the Apportionment Fund), 212 South 7th Street, Mapleton, Iowa 51034.
