Gwen J. Miller, 92, of Whiting, Iowa, died Friday, April 28, 2017, at Pleasant View Care Center in Whiting.

Funeral services will be 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, May 2, 2017, at the Community Church of Christ in Sloan, Iowa, with Dr. Emery Killian officiating. Burial will be at a later date in the Onawa Cemetery, Onawa, Iowa. Visitation will be 6:00 – 8:00 P.M. Monday, May 1, 2017, at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Rush Family Care Service in Onawa.

Gwendolyn Joy was born January 24, 1925, in Aurelia, Iowa, the daughter of Jay and Ada (Edge) Petlon. She graduated from Aurelia High School, and attended Buena Vista University, where she earned her teacher's certificate. She taught in a country school near Aurelia for two years until her marriage.

Gwen married Norman Miller on June 17, 1945, in Alta, Iowa. To this union, two sons were born: Steve and Dennis.

The couple made their home in Alta before moving to Moorhead, Iowa in 1951, where Norman taught and served as principal at East Monona. In 1969, they moved to Turin, Iowa, where they resided for 30 years. Norman passed away on July 25, 1999. After his death, Gwen moved to Sloan, Iowa.

She loved antiques, decorating, flowers, and traveling.

Survivors include one son, Dennis (Karen) Miller of Aberdeen, SD; four grandchildren, Tom Miller of Aberdeen, SD, Julie (Brian) Ermer of Aberdeen, SD, Chad (Bobbi Jo) Miller of Spring, TX, and Matt (Ashley) Miller of Clive, IA; six great-grandchildren, Peyton Ermer, Reece Ermer, Elliott Ermer, Luke Ermer, Hayden Miller, and Addison Miller; one brother, Robert Petlon of Cherokee, IA; and several nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Jay and Ada Petlon; husband, Norman Miller; son, Steve Miller; five siblings, Mildred (Russell) Chilgren, Willard (Fern) Petlon, Pauline (Virgil) Peterson, Evelyn (Alvin) Nelson, and Jack (Mary Ann) Petlon; and brothers- and sisters-in-law, Ruth Petlon, Roger (Esther) Miller, Phyllis (Shirley "Skid") Skidmore, and Gerald (Willie) Miller.
