Beulah Bethine Rose Irwin, 88, of Castana, Iowa, died Sunday, October 27, 1996, at Elmwood Care Center in Onawa, Iowa.

Mrs. Irwin was born January 12, 1908 in Castana, Iowa, the daughter of William and Nellie (Pembrook) Davis. She was one of 14 children and was raised in the Castana and Mapleton area. In 1925 she married Roscoe-Rose and they farmed in the Castana and Mapleton area. She moved to Sioux City where she worked for the Wincharger Plan in Sioux City during World War II.

She lived in Sioux City for eighteen years and was baptized in the Wesley Methodist Church there. She also worked as a sales clerk for J.C. Penny Company in Sioux City for fourteen years. In 1958 she married C.L. “Lee” Irwin and moved back to the Castana area where they made their home. Mr. Irwin died in 1980 and she moved to Onawa in 1981.

She was a member of the Castana Community Church, the Ladies Aid, the Cottonwood Creek Club, and the Busy Bee Club.

Survivors include a daughter and her husband, Maxine and Donald Johnson of Sioux City; a son and his wife, Lyle and DiAnn Rose of Mapleton, Iowa; 5 grandchildren, Becky and her husband, Denny Robinson, Debbie and her husband, Michael Jensen, Marsha and her husband, Craig Hartman, David and his wife, Rita Rose and Brenda and her husband, Steve Howland; 10 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Mabel Davis of Yucaipa, California; several nieces and nephews and a host of friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Lee; nine brothers and four sisters.

Services were held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, October 30, 1996 at the Castana Community Church, Castana, Iowa with Linda Boggs, Pastor, officiating. The organist, Mrs. Paul Petersen, accompanied a duet, Mrs. Brady Hanson and Mrs. Harvey Hanson, in the selections “Ivory Palaces” and “I know Who Holds Tomorrow.”

Honorary Bearers were the great grandsons.

Casket Bearers were grandchildren; Becky and Denny Robinson, Marsha and Craig Hartman, Debbie and Michael Jensen, David and Rita Rose and Brenda and Steve Howland.

Interment was in Center Cemetery at Castana, Iowa, with arrangements by the Pearson Funeral Home, Onawa, Iowa.
