Mapleton, Iowa—Herbert “Herb” John Andrew Teut, 83, of Mapleton died Friday October 11, 1996, at Maple Heights Nursing Home in Mapleton.

Services will be 10 a.m. Monday at St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Mapleton, with the Rev. Charles Adams, church pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Crawford Heights Memory Gardens in Denison, Iowa. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. today, with a 7 p.m. prayer service at the Armstrong Funeral Home in Mapleton.

Mr. Teut was born Feb. 1, 1913, in Soldier Township, Crawford County, Iowa, the son of Herman and Anna (Wiedemann) Teut. He was baptized in the Christian faith on June 15, 1913, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in rural Charter Oak, Iowa, where he was also confirmed on March 28, 1926. Mr. Teut received his education at Immanuel Lutheran School and Soldier Township 6, graduating on August 17, 1928. He worked for local farmers each season until harvest and then drove a grain and stock truck in the winter months. He also operated a road maintainer for three years. On December 14, 1941, he married Arlene Elnora Christiansen at Immanuel Lutheran Church. The couple then farmed until 1975, where they retired because of poor health and moved to Mapleton on October 5.

Mr. Teut was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in rural Charter Oak until April 1949. He then became a very active charter member of St. Luke’s Lutheran Church in Ricketts, Iowa, where he attended for 27 years. In February 1976 he joined St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Mapleton.

Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Judy and her husband Fred Glover of South Sioux City, and Nancy Bielenberg of Schlewig, Iowa; two sons and their wives, Gary and Kandi of Danbury, Iowa and David and Kris of Minneapolis, Minn.; nine grandchildren, Bret, Nichole, Zachary, Andrienne, Cori, Joshua, Nathan, Megan and Samuel; two brothers and their wives, Ralph and Ruth of Ute, Iowa and Everett and Betty of Omaha, Nebr., two sisters, Erna and her husband Gilbert Nihsen of Charter Oak and Ruby Waderich of Mapleton; three sister-in-laws, Clara Teut and Christine Teut, both of Schleswig, and Irene Teut of Denison.

He was preceded in death by a grandson, Jason Adam Teut; seven brothers, Elmer, Melvin, Arlo, Kermit, Waldo, Orville and Raymond; two sisters, Edna Wodtke and Evelyn Teut; two brother-in-laws, August Waderich and Marcus Wodtke; and a sister-in-law, Dorothy Teut.
