Lester F. Hupke, 82, devoted husband and Father to his family, went to be with the Lord on Friday, March 3, at his home in Carlisle.
Visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m., Friday, March 10, at Peterson Funeral Home in Carlisle with a 7 p.m. Rosary.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, March 11, at St. Elizabeth Seton Catholic Church in Carlisle.

Interment will be in the Carlisle Cemetery, followed by a light lunch at the church.

Lester was born on June 23, 1934, in Danbury, to Frank and Helen (Ryan) Hupke. Lester grew up in Mapleton where he went to school at St. Mary’s Catholic School.

Lester served in the United States Navy from 1952-1955 and the National Guard from 1955-1963. He was a proud member of the American Legion for 62 years.

Lester and Frances Batten were married on April 7, 1956. They built their home in Carlisle where they raised their family and continued to live through the remainder of their days. They were thrilled to celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary last year.

Lester retired in 1989 from Beckman Brothers where he worked in wholesale heating and plumbing.

In retirement, he enjoyed hunting mushrooms, tinkering with his old cars as a member of the Tri-Five Chevy Club, and spending time with family and friends where he was known for his pranks and sense of humor.

Lester is survived by his children, Brian (Kim) Hupke of Watkins, Bruce (Joni) Hupke of Carlisle, Bradley (Lorie) Hupke of Cheyenne, Wyo., Brenda (Dennis) Descoteau of Pella, and Brooke Hupke of Carlisle; three sisters, LouAnn Owens of Sarasota, Fla., JoAnn Frahm of Galva, and Loretta Wilson of Los Alamos, N.M.; grandchildren, Brianne (Adam) Tremmel, Greg (Megan) Hupke, Heath (Rachel) Hupke, Kate (Chris) Yarnell, Drew (Jamie) Hupke, Daniel Hupke, Hattie Hupke, Tisha Hupke, Stephanie Hupke, Bobbie Hupke, Kayla Hupke, Jonathon (Lisa) Branderhorst, Frannie (Austin) Reeves, Nicholas (Macey) Branderhorst; and 18 great-grandchildren.

Lester was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Frances; siblings, Herbert Hupke, Wilford Hupke, Lawrence Hupke, and Berneice Green; and two granddaughters, Hannah Hupke and Danielle Descoteau.
