Elizabeth Eileen Reed, 89, of Turin, died Thursday, Feb. 23, at Elmwood Care Centre in Onawa.

Elizabeth Eileen was born Nov. 28, 1927 in Battle Creek, the daughter of Robert V. and Betty Alice (McCall) Nutt. She grew up near Castana and graduated from Castana High School in 1945. She attended Western Iowa Tech Community College in Sioux City.

Eileen and Donald Reed were united in marriage in 1947 at the Castana Community Church. To this union one daughter was born. The couple lived in Onawa for a short time before moving to their farm near Turin, where they have resided for over 60 years.

The couple owned and operated Reed Realty in Onawa until 2015. She ran the local Weight Watchers for 12 years.

She enjoyed plants, antiques, and her cats. She was a member of the Castana Community Church.
Survivors include her husband of 69 years, Donald Reed of Turin; one granddaughter, Teniesha Kessler; and several nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert V. and Betty Alice (McCall) Nutt; daughter and son-in-law, Deborah and Jerry Kessler; and four siblings, William F. Nutt, Louise (Nutt) Villeneuve, Ernest “Hickory” Nutt, and Robert E. Nutt.

Funeral services were 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 28, at the Castana Community Church in Castana, with Pastor Linda Boggs officiating.

Music selections included “In The Garden” and “How Great Thou Art” with Darren Goslar as soloist and Benita Davis as organist, and the recorded selection “When Irish Eyes Are Smiling.”
Casket bearers were LeRoy Reitz, Richard Nutt, Doug Chafa, Bo Fox, Barry Erickson, and Randy Utterback.

Burial followed in Kennebec Cemetery near Castana.
Visitation was 5-7 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 27, with a Prayer Service at 6:30 p.m. at the Rush Family Chapel in Onawa.

Arrangements were under the direction of Rush Family Care Service in Onawa.
