Doris Louise Schafer, 51, Onawa, Iowa died at her residence Saturday, June 22, 2002.

Doris was born February 11, 1951 in Onawa, the daughter of George Lloyd and Josephine Louise (Larson) Clapper. She married Joe Schafer, Jr. March 16, 1968 in Columbus, NE. He died January 27, 2000 in Onawa. She worked in housekeeping at a nursing home in Columbus and later was a volunteer at Monona Services and West Central Development in Onawa.

Survivors include a daughter, Betty McCullock and her special friend, Randy Roberts of Onawa; a son, Jody and his special friend Traci of Rockwell City, IA; three sisters, Georgia Martin, Norma and her husband Ron Wilder, and Ruth Johnson all of Onawa; a brother, Jim Clapper of Worthington, Mn.; four grandchildren, Penny McCullock, Chelsea and Zach Johnson and Joseph Schafer; her mother-in-law, Katie Schafer of Columbus, NE, a sister-in-law, Lorraine Barton of Columbus, NE; a brother-in-law, Larry Schafer of Boston, MA; and two uncles, Darrell and his wife Mary Ann Larson and Ronnie Larson all of Arkansas.

Along with her husband, she was, preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Penny Marie; and a brother, George, Jr.

Funeral services were held at 10.30 a.m. Wednesday, June 26, 2002 at First Christian Church in Onawa with Rusty Hedger, minister. Special music was "The Old Rugged Cross", "The Rose" and "Amazing Grace" Burial was in Onawa Cemetery.

Visitation was from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday at Rush Family Care Service in Onawa.

Casket bearers were Dennis Bonnes, John Johnson, David Lundeen; Wayne Johnson, Tim Wilder and Jeremy Cameron.
