Monica Elizabeth Sammin, a long time resident of Onawa, Iowa, died at Clarkson Hospital in Omaha, Nebraska, on August 29, 1983, at the age of 68 years, two months and 23 days. Death came following a lengthy illness.

She was born at Pocahontas, Iowa, on June 6, 1915, the daughter of Patrick and Ellen Flaherty Horgan. She was a graduate of the St. Vincent School of Nursing in Sioux City, Iowa. On December 23, 1936, she was united in marriage with Floyd Sammin at Denison, Iowa. The couple made their home in Onawa following their marriage. Mr. Sammin died on April 9, 1980. Monica was Director of Nursing at Elmwood Nursing Home in Onawa for a number of years and was employed at Pleasant View Nursing Home at Whiting for many years. She was a member of St. John's Catholic Church in Onawa, St. John's Rosary Society and the Onawa Women's Club.

She is survived by one son, Terrence E. Sammin of Omaha; two daughters, Mrs. Rich (Nancy) Kieffer of Chicago, Ill.; and Mrs. Wayne (Suzann) Wilson of Des Moines, la.; ten grandchildren and one sister, Mrs. Glenn (Teresa) Cramer of Sioux City. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two brothers and two sisters.

Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, September 2, 1983, at St. John's Catholic Church, Onawa, Iowa, with Reverend Father Donald Smith as Mass Celebrant and Msgr. A.W. Behrens as Concelebrant The organist was Mrs. Darrell Hewitt and the soloist, David Hausman, sang, "Ave Maria" and "Panis Angelicas".

Casket bearers were John Horgan, Robert Horgan, Thomas Horgan, Rich Kieffer, Wayne Wilson and Robert Porter. The Rosary was recited at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, September 1, 1963, at the Pearson Funeral Home, Onawa, Iowa. Interment was in the Onawa Cemetery, Onawa, Iowa, with arrangements by Pearson Funeral Home, Onawa, Iowa.
