Onawa Business Man Dies Suddenly

Floyd E. Sammin was born July 28, 1909 at Rockwell City, Iowa, and passed from this life at Onawa, Iowa, on Saturday, April 9, 1960, at the age of 50 years, 8 months and 11 days. He became seriously ill on Friday evening when he entered the hospital. Death came unexpectedly and as a shock to all the community.

He was the owner of the Sammin Furniture Co., of Onawa, and had been in business here for many years. He was a resident of Onawa for the past 45 years.

On December 23, 1936, he was united in marriage to Monica Horgan at Denison, Iowa.

Mr. Sammin was a member of the St. John's Catholic Church, a member and past president of the Onawa Loons club, the Eagles lodge, Onawa Country Club, and the Onawa Chamber of Commerce.

Survivors include his widow, Monica; one son, Terry, two daughters, Nancy and Suzann; one sister, Mrs. Allen (Florence) Chantry of Omaha, Nebr.; two brothers, Cletus of Omaha, Nebr., and William Sammin of Phoenix, Arizona. He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Mary Sammin, and two sisters, Mary and Catherine.

Funeral services were held at 10:00 a. m. Tuesday, April 12, at the St. John's Catholic Church. Father B. V. Greteman and Monsignor P. P. Gearen officiated at the requiem high mass.

Active casket bearers were Wayne Virtue, Robert Underhill, Glenn Willmott, Leonard Ryan, Earl Snyder and James Johnston. The honorary bearers were Ben Dunham, sr., John Beardsley, George O. Brown, Durward Karlson, C. E. Hitchman, C. M. Hitchman, Raymond Olson, A. D. Moore, Phil Cato, William Wonder, William Barnard, Doyle Carpenter, C. R. Mankenberg, and Dr. W. L. Samson. Interment was in the Onawa cemetery with arrangements by the Pearson funeral home
