Henry Cook Is Buried Tuesday
Funeral Services Are Held In Evangelical Church For Pioneer Here

Funeral services for Henry P. Cook, Sr., 74-year-old long time Mapleton resident who passed away Friday at his home in Mapleton, were held Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock in St. Peter's Evangelical Church. Rev. E. Otte, pastor of the church, officiated.

Interment was in Mt. Hope Cemetery under the direction of the Duschl Funeral Home of Mapleton.

Ben Christiansen, Hans Gosch, M.J. Baagoe, Frank Passick, C.P. Andersen and Cornelius Clausen served as pallbearers.

Mapleton business houses were closed during the services in memory of Mr. Cook, who was in business in Mapleton many years prior to his retirement 15 years ago.

Mrs. Otte and Mrs. Clarence Mohr sang “O That Will Be Glory for Me” and “Under His Wings.” They were accompanied at the piano by Mrs. Robert Kahrs.

Henry Frederick Cook was born December 12, 1865, in Hanover, Germany. At the age of 7 he came to America and settled near Green Island, Iowa. When 15 he, with his parents and two brothers, came west to Crawford County. During the time the first railroad was built he located at Charter Oak. There he met Miss Minnie Nipkow whom he married August 24, 1888. In August of this year they had enjoyed 52 years of married life.

In 1894 the family moved to Mapleton residing here continuously until 4 years ago when Mr. and Mrs. Cook moved to San Francisco, California, returning last fall to Mapleton.

Mr. Cook was actively engaged in various business enterprises in Mapleton for more than 35 years retiring from the automobile business about 15 years ago.

He was confirmed in the German Lutheran Church at Spragueville, Iowa. Mr. Cook was one of the founders of the first German Lutheran Church in Mapleton and also of the Evangelical Church. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles in Sioux City.

Mr. Cook is survived by his wife and the following children, Ida (Mrs. G.J. Fisher), Will F. Cook, Anna (Mrs. G.F. Wooster) and Henry Cook Jr., of Mapleton, Fred A Cook of Sioux City, Elsie (Mrs. Edward F. Henry) of Bellevue, Washington, Phyllis (Mrs. Cornelius Homoet) of Minneapolis, Minn., Alberta (Mrs. G.H. Carlson) of Reno, Nevada, Miss Fredricka Cook, Miss Linda Lou Cook, Robert W. Cook and Raymond Cook, all of San Francisco and Jack Cook of Mason City. One son died in infancy.

He also is survived by 15 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren, 2 brothers, Fred Koch and Will Kock of Wyoming, Iowa and a half brother, Arthur Cook of Dow City, Iowa.

Twelve children and six grandchildren have been graduated from the Mapleton High School and 6 grandchildren are still attending Mapleton School.
