Gary G. Hargroves, 77, of Fridley, Minnesota, formerly of Castana, Iowa, died Monday, July 4, 2016 in Turin, Iowa, in the loving home of Dave and Sharon Poole.

Memorial services will be held 11:00 A.M. Saturday, July 9, 2016 at the Castana Community Church, Castana, Iowa, with Pastor Linda Boggs officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Rush Family Care Service, Onawa, Iowa.

Gary George Hargroves was born June 11, 1939 near Castana, Iowa, the son of George and Wanda (Chamberlain) Hargroves. He graduated from Castana High School in 1958. Following high school, he attended Buena Vista University in Storm Lake, Iowa, and graduated from Morningside College in Sioux City in 1962. He then attended the Claremont School of Theology in Claremont, California, where he earned a doctorate in theology in 1967.

Gary and Elizabeth Alm were united in marriage in 1968. Two children were born to this union, Karin and John.

He worked in plan giving for 40 years with the United Methodist Church in Minnesota. He then served as the director of plan giving with the University of Minnesota Medical Foundation. He finished his career in plan giving with Thompson and Associates.

He was a member of the Hennepin Avenue United Methodist Church and a leader at the Minnesota Plan Giving Conference.

Survivors include his significant other for over twenty years, Roxane Kavaloski of Fridley, MN; his daughter, Karin Justman of Atlanta, GA; his son, John Hargroves of Hugo, MN; and four siblings, Rex (Barb) Hargroves of Holstein, IA, Sharon (Dave) Poole of Turin, IA, Don (Betty) Davis of Danbury, IA, and Vicki (Gary Trucke) Helmbrecht of Rodney, IA.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Roger Davis; and one sister, Connie Bridgeman.
