Ival D. "Ike" Hinkel, 93, of Onawa, Iowa passed away on Saturday, July 2, 2016 at Burgess Health Center in Onawa, Iowa.

Funeral services will be 10:30 A.M. Thursday, July 7, 2016 at Community of Christ Church in Pisgah, Iowa with Evangelist Dale Wolf and Pastor Terry McHugh, officiating. Burial will be in the Soldier Valley Cemetery, Pisgah, Iowa. Visitation will be 5:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Wednesday, July 6, 2016 at Rush Family Chapel in Onawa, Iowa with a prayer service at 7:00 P.M. Arrangements are under the direction of Rush Family Care Service in Onawa, Iowa.

Ival Duane "Ike" was born on November 19, 1922 in Orson, Iowa the son of Martin and Velma (Carson) Hinkel. He was the second of twelve children, six boys and six girls. He attended country school for eight years.

Ike and Lila Simmons were united in marriage on February 27, 1948 in Omaha, Nebraska. Two children were born to this union, Peggy and Gordon. They enjoyed a little over 68 years together.

Ike was a lifelong farmer and raised livestock. The couple lived on the same farm in the Soldier area for 51 years. They retired and moved to Onawa in 1999.

Ike was an avid fisherman. He enjoyed raising gourds for birdhouses. He also enjoyed creating yard ornaments.

Ike was a member of the RLDS church in Pisgah, Iowa.

Survivors include his wife of over 68 years, Lila Hinkel of Onawa, IA; his daughter, Peggy (Rich Leisinger) McAndrews of Harrisburg, SD; his son, Gordon (Darla) Hinkel of Onawa, IA; five grandchildren, Levi (Melinda) McAndrews, Shea McAndrews, Jeremy (Heather) Hinkel, Brent (Jenna) Hinkel, and Candace (Tyson) Kurth; twelve great-grandchildren; four sisters, Betty (Mearl) Johnson of Dunlap, IA, Barbara Sorenson of North Bend, NE, Edna Hopkins of Woodbine, IA, and Lorna Tillisch of Wakefield, KA; three brothers, Estal Hinkel of Logan, IA, Robert (Twyla) Hinkel of Pisgah, IA, and Dwight (Karen) Hinkel of Cedar Bluffs, NE; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Margaret Armstrong and Lucille Hinkel; two brothers, Roy Hinkel and Lynn Hinkel; one brother-in-law, Dale Sorenson; and two sisters-in-law, Neva Hinkel and Naomi Hinkel.
