Noel J. Wingate, 69, of Mapleton, Iowa formerly of Soldier, Iowa passed away on Saturday, July 2, 2016 at Maple Heights Nursing Home in Mapleton, Iowa.

Funeral services will be 10:30 A.M. Wednesday, July 6, 2016 at the Soldier Lutheran Church in Soldier, Iowa with Pastor Carla Johnsen, officiating. Burial will be in the Soldier Lutheran Cemetery, Soldier, Iowa. Visitation will be 5:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Tuesday, July 5, 2016 at the Soldier Lutheran Church in Soldier, Iowa. Arrangements are under the direction of Rush Family Care Service in Onawa, Iowa.

Noel James was born on August 17, 1946 in Ute, Iowa the son of Harlow and Marilla (McDole) Wingate. He grew up on the farm east of Soldier. After graduating from high school, he graduated from Augustana College in Sioux Falls, South Dakota with a Bachelors Degree in Business Administration.

He taught business classes at Anita, Iowa, Indianola, Iowa, and East Monona High School in Moorhead, Iowa for a total of 26 years. He coached basketball, football, and baseball. He worked for the Federal Deposit Insurance. He worked for the Henry Doorly Zoo in Omaha, Nebraska.

He enjoyed bike riding and riding in Ragbrai for several years. He enjoyed singing for many weddings.

Noel was a member of the Soldier Lutheran Church in Soldier, Iowa.

Survivors include his brother, Rolland Wingate of Mapleton, IA; his sister, Kathy (Leo) Dean of Mapleton, IA; step-son, Erik Sandvold of Minnesota; step-daughter, Emily Sandvold of Mapleton, IA; niece, Shana Dean of Mapleton, IA; nephew, Troy Dean of Omaha, NE; and great nieces and nephews, Sydnee, Jada, Myia, and Jurrell Dean of Mapleton, IA.

Noel was preceded in death by his parents.
