Darlene Ferne (Nuzum) Moore was born on July 8, 1934, to Howard and Beatrice (Coate) Nuzum near Pisgah, Iowa. She attended Preparation Country School, Pisgah Public School, and she graduated from 8th grade from Ute Junior High.

Darlene detasseled corn and worked at a Dairy Sweet in Carroll, Iowa. She also lived with the Thoreson family to help with the housekeeping and children. Darlene married Wilbur Moore September 19, 1953, at the Christian Church parsonage in Logan, Iowa by Rev. Evans. The couple farmed near Moorhead. Darlene raised chickens, collected eggs and milked cows. She also had a large garden.

Darlene was a member of the Moorhead Christian Church. She enjoyed the farm life and keeping her house clean. She enjoyed getting her hair done each week. Darlene was very close to her sisters. In the early years Darlene kept a close eye on her children. In the later years she kept a close eye on Wilbur. Darlene was Wilbur's caretaker until his death on July 13, 2015.

Darlene died at the Methodist Medical Center in Omaha on July 13, 2016, at the age of 82 years and five days.

Darlene was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Wilbur Moore; three sisters, Colleen Martin Mehring, Shirley Nuzum and Bonita Martin; and four brothers, Gary, Leo, Kenneth and Bob Nuzum. She is survived by her three children, Becky (Dave) Cohrs of Woodbine, Iowa, Rick (Julie) Moore of Moorhead, Iowa, Brad (Michelle) Moore of Soldier, Iowa; nine grandchildren; 24 great grandchildren; nine siblings, Alan "Jerry" (Joyce) Nuzum of Alma, Wisconsin, Jack (Shirley) Nuzum of Williston, North Dakota, Jo Ann Runyan of Omaha, Nebraska, Carol Sue Nuzum of Sioux City, Iowa, Barbara (Rex) Hargroves of Holstein, Iowa, Dale Nuzum of LeMars, Iowa, Joyce (Gary) Williams of Merrill, Iowa, Patricia (Ronnie) Johnson of Paulina, Iowa, Diane (Larry) Theisen of Logan, Iowa; and many other family and friends.
