Jacob Virgil Dewey Wyland, 87, of Onawa died on Friday, August 15, 1986 in Burgess Memorial Hospital in Onawa.

He was born on December 14, 1898, at Lake Fork, Illinois, the son of William Sidney Wyland and Anna Bell Scroggins Wyland. He married Nellie Irene Koehler on April 2, 1925 in Lincoln, Illinois and they made their home in Onawa. He had been a crane operator for many years.

Survivors include his wife, Nellie, of Onawa; four sons, Leo of St. Joseph, Mo., Vernon of Glenshaw, Pa., Wayne of Omaha and Rex of Kansas City, MO. two daughters, Mrs. Dennis (Aloha) South of Onawa and Mrs. Leo (Arvilla) Altemeier of Grinnell; two brothers, Floyd of San Pablo, California and Dale of Lincoln, Illinois; four sisters, Mrs. Stella Adams of Midway City, California, Mrs. Hazel Baker of Pekin, Illinois, Mrs. Schylar (Loraine) Patterson of Williamsville, Illinois and Anna Bell Walker of Decatur, Illinois; twenty-one grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Virgil Louis Sidney Wyland: two sisters, Helma Bennett and Arvilla Koehler; and four brothers, Elmo, Melvin, Tom and Adair.

Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, August 19, 1986 at the Pearson Funeral Chapel, Onawa, with Rev. Everett Epperson officiating. The organist, Mrs. Vince Phillips, played “How Great Thou Art.”

Casket bearers were Lester Skarin, Adair Kaehlar, Jimmy Adams, Tim Wyland, Cary Steward and Jack Adams.

Interment was in the Onawa Cemetery, Onawa, with arrangements by Pearson Funeral Home, Onawa.
