Florence B. Hawks 1882 - 1986

Florence B. Hawks, daughter of William and Margaret (Campbell) Barton, passed away on August 16, 1986, at Loring Care Center in Sac City, Iowa, at the age of 103.

She was born at Perth Amboy, New Jersey on November 2, 1882 and married Frank Hawks, September 8, 1913. She was a member of the OES over fifty years and also the Order of Railroad Telegraphers having been a rail road agent and telegraph operator on the Illinois Central railroad for over forty years. Mrs. Hawks graduated from Onawa High School and was affiliated with the Methodist Church.

Being the last surviving member of her immediate family, she is survived by one niece, Mrs. Dean (Florence) Thorpe of Littleton, Colo.

She was preceded in death by her husband, father, mother and three brothers, Fred, George and Richard.

Eastern Star Services were held at Farber & Otteman Funeral Home, Lake View, Iowa, at 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, August 19, 1986 by Chapter No. 18 O.E.S., Sac City, Iowa. Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, August 20, 1986, at Farber & Otteman Funeral Home, Lake View, Iowa with Rev. Gordon Elrick as Clergyman. Mrs. W.K. Hunter was organist.

Honorary attendants were Robert Freese, Floyd Parkingson, Jack McConnell, Rudy Ruchti, Emmett Mohrhauser and Wilbert Mohr. Active attendants were Raymond Hawks, Tom Kennedy, Harold Kruthoff, Sherman Thorpe, Merle Schoenthal, Kenneth Pugh.

Interment was in Gerguson Cemetery, Lake View, Iowa.
